The option to work from home, necessitated due to Covid-19, contributed to a 13% increase in the volume of telecommunications and postal services in Mozambique, according to data released by the ministry of Transport and Communications, Government of Mozambique. The data is relating to the first half of 2020 compared to the same
period in the previous year.
The increase in collection was partly due to improvements and intense use of the telecommunications network in the country. The network has been on an expansion mode for quite some time. There are reports that the quality of services was also improved considerably, particularly in the postal services.
The telecommunication sector is implementing several new projects to migrate from analogue to digital broadcasting. The satellite television services and Internet access to 500 villages is showing good progress. The country’s 2G and 3G mobile phone network unites all districts, covering 90% of administrative posts and 60% of localities. Provincial capitals of the country have (4G) connections. Such services will be expanded to all district capitals and 50% of administrative posts by 2024. The country is committed to migrate to 5G by 2024.
