The monthly inflation rate in January was 0.93 per cent. Among the goods contributing to the January price rises were lettuce (up by 17.3 per cent), cabbage (10.3 per cent), brown sugar (9.7 per cent), dried fish (7.4 per cent), and vegetable oil (2.5 per cent). But the prices of several goods fell during the month – notably lemons (down by 22 per cent), live chickens (2.1 per cent), fresh fish (0.9 per cent), women’s hairdressing services (2.1 per cent), and men’s trousers (1.8 per cent).

These figures show that the highest inflation in January was in Quelimane (1.8 per cent).
