Despite the advances recorded, the industry sector’s contribution to gross domestic product fell from 7.8% to 6.7% in the last three years.
Mozambique recorded industrial production valued at more than 620 billion meticais from 2020 until this month, a growth of 42% compared to previous years.
According to the Minister of Industry and Commerce Silvino Moreno, the increase was driven by growth in the industrial estate and the entry into operation of new factories in the country. Minister Moreno was speaking at the start of the 22nd Coordinating Council of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce in Maputo on Wednesday.
The event aims to assess the degree of implementation of the government’s 2020-2024 Five-Year Program and the prospects for 2025-29 in the industry and commerce sector. In the trade sector, Silvino Moreno highlighted the more than 72 million tons of various agricultural products sold in the current five-year period.
