Mozambican Minister of Industry and Trade Silvino Moreno said that his country is ready to adopt Green Industrialization riding on the back of its huge power generation potential, adequate infrastructures, and favourable geographical location.
At the 28th Conference of Senior Officials of the United Nations Council for Southern Africa (UNECA), which met recently to coincide with the 61st Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OEACP) and the 42nd Session of the African, Caribbean, and Pacific – European Union (ACP-EU) Joint Parliamentary Assembly, he said that his country met all the conditions to implement green industrialization. He listed some of the steps undertaken by Mozambique, including the construction of the Mphanda Nkuwa hydroelectric dam and solar power projects all over the country.
The minister conceded that digitisation was a challenge for Mozambique. However, he pointed out that Mozambique would make definite strides towards that and indicated that the country would surge ahead with the Green Industrialization policies to become an environmentally friendly platform, by the adoption of low-polluting technologies. He also referred to Mozambique’s preparedness to join the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The country has already signed the agreement but, according to Mozambique’s Constitution, it must be ratified by the Assembly of the Republic.
