·        The import of cattle, pigs, goats and sheep for rearing and slaughter from neighboring Malawi are  prohibited  following the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the Chikwawa district

·        The ban was enacted by Mozambique’s National Directorate for Livestock Development.  It also prohibits the import of  livestock fodder

The veterinary authorities were told to intensify the detection of possible cases of the disease, the inspection of the movement and transit of animals, products and by-products along the main borders and other points of entrances and highways, in addition to the monthly examination of districts bordering Malawi.
