Mozambican Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosario  recently opened in Maputo an economic workshop on industrialization, a platform for stakeholders such as researchers, analysts, and policymakers to share experiences to improve the country’s National Industrialization Strategy.

In his opening speech, Rosario said industrialization remains as the government’s top priorities in order to boost domestic production, substitute imports and promote economic diversification.

Through the promotion of industrialization, the Prime Minister underscored that the government wanted to create the appropriate conditions for an increase in the production of high value manufactured products and wean the country away from its dependence on the production of primary products. Industrialization also provides an opportunity to increase the export of manufactured products and to substitute imports.  It would also reduce the outflow of foreign exchange, the head of the state stressed.  This would also generate more job opportunities and income, particularly for young people and women.

The government, the prime minister stressed, would continue to promote public-private partnerships, including in investment in human capital, logistics infrastructures and better access to good quality energy.

Rosario said that, through public investment, the government intended to reduce production costs and promote connectivity among the various markets, thus contributing to better competitiveness of the industrial sector. He stressed that the implementation of the Public Service Reform Strategy was another field that would remain under the spotlight, he stressed.
