The Mozambique Stock Exchange (BVM) saw steady growth recently. Several stock market indicators grew in the first quarter of 2022, compared to the same period in 2021. Business volume grew by 148% from 1.5 billion meticais to 3.7 billion meticais from January to March.
The market liquidity index also grew by more than 100%, up from 1.4% in 2021 to 3% in the first quarter of 2022. Global financing for the economic exposure of the institution grew 24.6%, increasing 182 billion meticais in 2021 to 226.7 billion meticais (more than US$3.5 billion) in the first quarter of 2022. Securities registered at the BVM Central de Valores Mobiliários moved up by 15.1% during the same period, rising from 186 securities last year to 214 in 2022.
Market capitalisation rose less than 10%, growing by 8.1% from 117.4 billion meticais to 126.9 billion meticais. The market capitalisation ratio, in the first quarter of 2021 stood at 17.6% of gross domestic product. It grew to 19% in the first quarter of the current year.

As of now, BVM had 11 listed companies, namely Companhia Moçambicana de Hidrocarbonetos, SA (CMH), Cervejas de Moçambique (CDM), Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB), Empresa Moçambicana de Seguros (EMOSE), Touch Advertising, Paytech, Rede Viária de Moçambique (REVIMO), Arko Seguros, 2Business, Arco Investimentos and Zero Investimentos.
