The Mozambican government aims to set up next year units in the industrial parks to cater to import substitution drive of the country. The country is aiming to reduce its huge import bill.

Minister of Industry and Commerce Carlos Mesquita said that a robust industrial park strategy, associated with a broad change from the informal to the formal sector, could lead to higher revenue collection for the state.

Carlos Mesquita was speaking in Mapu
at the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA).

CTA president Agostinho Vuma emphasized that the business environment had this year been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. António Moura, Portugal’s ambassador to Mozambique, highlighted the private sector as a strategic partner in the materialization of his country’s Mais Emprego program, aimed at young people in Cabo Delgado.

The Portuguese government plans by 2024 to disburse around €4.2 million for fostering job opportunities for young people in Cabo Delgado as a part of that country’s effort to promote industrialization in Mozambique.
