Morocco Strengthens Its Position as MENA's Leading Exporter of Raspberries and Blackberries in 2024

(3 Minutes Read)

In 2024, Morocco firmly established itself as the dominant supplier of raspberries and blackberries to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, accounting for a staggering 97% of total berry import volumes, according to data from the agricultural analytics platform IndexBox.

Last year, Moroccan exporters shipped an impressive 63,000 tonnes of these berries to MENA markets, significantly outpacing Turkey, the second-largest supplier, which managed just 1,200 tonnes. The data also reveals a strong long-term growth trend: from 2013 to 2024, Morocco’s berry exports grew at an average annual rate of 28.5%. Although Turkey’s shipments grew at a faster annual rate of 41.7%, they started from a much smaller base and remain far behind in absolute terms.

In terms of export value, Morocco continued to lead the MENA market with total shipments worth USD 486 million in 2024. This represented 99% of the region’s raspberry and blackberry imports. Turkey, by contrast, contributed only USD 1.6 million in exports, equating to a mere 0.3% of the market share.

Morocco’s dominance is further underscored by pricing. The average Moroccan export price reached $7,588 per tonne in 2024, marking a 7.2% increase from the previous year. Within the country, Rabat reported an even higher average price of USD 7,693 per tonne. In comparison, Turkey’s average price remained significantly lower at just USD 1,300 per tonne, highlighting a clear disparity in product value and market positioning.
