Morocco has finalized a major defense agreement with Airbus Helicopters for the purchase of ten H225M helicopters, the European aerospace company announced on Oct. 18 during the Dubai air show. This acquisition marks a significant modernization step for the Royal Moroccan Air Force, which will deploy the new aircraft primarily for combat search-and-rescue operations. The H225Ms are set to replace Morocco’s aging fleet of Puma helicopters, which have been in service for more than four decades.
Airbus Helicopters CEO Bruno Even expressed appreciation for Morocco’s continued confidence in the manufacturer. He noted that replacing the legacy Puma fleet with the advanced H225M highlights the long-standing partnership between Morocco and Airbus. Even emphasized that the H225M continues to gain traction worldwide, recognized for its reliability during complex missions and its capability to operate in challenging environments.
The newly ordered helicopters will be equipped with a range of advanced mission systems, including dual hoists, an integrated searchlight, and the Safran Euroflir 410 electro-optical sensor suite. They can also be outfitted with machine guns and electronic warfare systems, enhancing their survivability and operational versatility. The contract further includes a comprehensive support and service package, featuring digital and connected maintenance solutions designed to improve fleet readiness and streamline upkeep.
