Morocco is set to introduce an advanced automated radar system capable of detecting speeding violations from vehicles travelling in both directions. The National Road Safety Agency (NARSA) announced on Tuesday that the new measure will be implemented starting June 16.
This initiative forms part of NARSA’s broader strategy to improve traffic safety and ensure equal enforcement of road laws nationwide. According to the agency, the upgraded radars will now register speed violations from both oncoming vehicles and those moving away from the detection point.
With this system in place, all drivers—regardless of their direction of travel—will be monitored consistently and held accountable if they exceed the speed limit. NARSA emphasised the critical role of adhering to speed limits and traffic laws in safeguarding lives on the road.
The rollout marks a significant shift in how speed monitoring is conducted in Morocco. Previously, many drivers believed they were only at risk of being caught when approaching a radar. The new technology eliminates that misconception by covering both directions, leading to more comprehensive and accurate monitoring.

By applying traffic regulations uniformly, the system aims to prevent violations from going unnoticed and ensure a level playing field for all road users. Most importantly, NARSA expects this initiative to promote safer driving behaviour, reduce accidents, and ultimately save lives. The radar upgrade is part of a larger nationwide campaign focused on stronger enforcement and raising public awareness about road safety.
