Bilateral ties between China and Morocco are witnessing an upward trend according to recent studies.  During the last five years, bilateral trade has risen by 50%, from 4 billion dollars in 2016 to 6 billion dollars in 2021. More than 80 Chinese investment projects are underway in Morocco.

China and Morocco also have signed the agreement on the Joint Implementation Plan of the Belt and Road Initiative. The agreement was hailed by both sides as opening a new era in bilateral cooperation particularly in matters of infrastructure. In 2021, both countries signed agreements in the field of health. A significant development particularly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic was the deal to manufacture the COVID-19 vaccine Sinopharm in the Kingdom.

Observers are of the view that Morocco has strengthened its position as a gateway to Europe and Africa in recent years. Due to its geostrategic location, the Kingdom acts as an entry point for European investments in Africa.  Its skilled workforce, its infrastructure and logistics and stability have worked in its favour. Its port Tanger Med, is among the top 25 global port hubs and is third in terms of connectivity behind Shanghai and Panama City.
