Airbus has agreed to purchase Spirit AeroSystems’ manufacturing facility in Casablanca, Morocco, for USD 439 million, reinforcing its international production footprint. This acquisition is part of Airbus’s broader initiative to streamline its operations and internalise critical supply chain functions.

The 25,000-square-meter plant, which employs around 800 people, produces key components for the A220 and A321 aircraft. It will be rebranded as Airbus Atlantic Maroc Aero, reflecting Airbus’s naming convention for its integrated sites. Airbus plans to increase staffing at the facility to 1,000 in the coming years, supporting both its manufacturing capacity and Morocco’s position as a growing aerospace hub.

This move is part of a larger acquisition of several Spirit AeroSystems sites across France, the U.S., and Northern Ireland, which contribute to Airbus’s A350 and A220 programs. The overall goal is to improve supply chain resilience, increase efficiency, and meet surging demand for commercial aircraft.

The deal is expected to close by Q3 2025, pending regulatory approvals. Meanwhile, Boeing is set to acquire the remaining Spirit AeroSystems assets for USD 4.7 billion, excluding those sold to Airbus, signalling a major restructuring in the aerospace manufacturing sector.
