Over two years after legalising cannabis products, Morocco’s industry is booming with over 22 innovative, diverse high-quality products. The national market now offers a wide range of dietary supplements, such as cannabidiol (CBD) oil, which promotes relaxation and improves sleep quality. The arrival of these products in Morocco is the result of extensive efforts by regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with health standards and product quality.
Therapeutic products aimed at easing joint pain, headaches, and hair loss have recently emerged, along with innovative cosmetic items that improve skin softness and promote hair growth. This development stems from the collaborative efforts of various organizations, including the National Agency for the Regulation of Cannabis-Related Activities, the National Office for Food Safety, and the Directorate of Medicines and Pharmacy. These institutions have ensured that the products meet health and international standards while incorporating Moroccan ingredients like argan oil and prickly pear.
In terms of available products, Makhlouf highlighted CBD oil as beneficial for relaxation, improving sleep, and alleviating symptoms of conditions like epilepsy and insomnia. Other supplements address headaches, joint pain, hair loss, and enhance skin softness, offering a soothing effect. He noted that these high-quality products not only comply with international standards but also retain a Moroccan identity through the use of locally sourced natural ingredients.
However, Aziz Makhlouf, a representative of a specialized cannabis company recognized several challenges in the sector, including the need for greater awareness of Moroccan cannabis products and enhancing their global competitiveness. He emphasized the importance of developing an integrated ecosystem that meets market demands, boosts agricultural productivity, and trains small-scale farmers in effective practices to ensure the industry’s sustainability.

Khalid Zouine, President of the National Council of the National Union of Pharmacists of Morocco, pointed out that the only cannabis-based medical product available in Moroccan pharmacies is a pain-relief medication. In an interview with Hespress AR, he indicated that this treatment could provide relief for patients suffering from severe pain. However, Zouine noted that the integration of cannabis-derived medical products into Morocco’s healthcare system is still in its infancy. He suggested organizing training sessions for doctors on how to prescribe these treatments and increasing awareness among pharmacists to improve patient access to these medications.
As Morocco’s legal cannabis industry progresses, it offers significant potential for economic growth and medical advancements, strengthening the country’s position in the global cannabis market.
