The first half of the current fiscal year saw the registration of 189,698 vehicles on Telebirr in Ethiopia. The Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration (MoTRI) said that the vehicles were registered on the digital cash platform to access the government subsidies granted to fuel. The Government began implementing fuel supply reform measures and the Ministry and Ethio Telecom signed a memorandum of understanding to implement the project.
A total of 1,060 gas stations were also registered in the first six months of the fiscal year to use Telebirr for their services. Of that, 972 stations have started transacting using the platform.

MoTRI and Ethio Telecom signed a partnership agreement in October last year to enable the customers of the Ministry to settle their payments for the services delivered by the Ministry through Telebirr.
