In a landmark move to advance regional financial infrastructure, the Central Bank of Mauritania (BCM) and the Casablanca Stock Exchange have signed a strategic partnership aimed at establishing a stock exchange in Mauritania.

The memorandum of understanding, formalised in Nouakchott on Thursday, reflects a shared commitment to building a modern, inclusive, and internationally-aligned financial market in the country.

This South-South collaboration highlights Morocco’s broader mission to strengthen capital markets across Africa, reinforcing growing economic ties between Rabat and Nouakchott. The initiative was solidified in the presence of key officials, including BCM Governor Mohamed-Lemine Dhehby, Casablanca Stock Exchange Director General Tarik Senhaji, and Moroccan Ambassador Hamid Chabar.

Backed by nearly 100 years of experience, the Casablanca Stock Exchange will offer comprehensive support—spanning technical, operational, and training assistance—throughout the design and implementation phases of Mauritania’s stock exchange. The project aims to enhance capital mobilization, improve access to financing for local businesses, attract international investment, and eventually integrate Mauritania’s market into the global financial system.
