August 1st will see luxury camps in the Masai Mara including Angama Mara and Richard Branson-owned Mahali Mzuri reopening to welcome tourists, with the resumption of international flights. The well-known great wild beast migration regarded as one of ‘wonders of the World” that traditionally starts mid-June to mid- October peaking in July and August period. More than two million animals migrate between the Mara and the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania every year. This yearly spectacle is a global tourist attraction and leads to tourist bookings of 90 to 100 percent for hotels, lodges and camps. After the Covid 19 travel restrictions, most properties in the Mara and across the country were forced to close down affecting severely the tourism and hospitality sector which was a major revenue churner for countries like Kenya and Tanzania. Economic Survey 2020 estimated that last year, there were 286,000 visitors to the Mara.
