Mali’s prime minister will lodge a formal complaint against the economic sanctions imposed by ECOWAS and the West African Economic and Monetary Union.

The announcement was made by transitional prime minister Choguel Maïga. He was addressing the Nation in the state television channel.

During the interview, Choguel Maïga accused former colonial power, France, of being behind the sanctions in an effort to destabilize the country. However, the transitional prime minister said that negotiations with ECOWAS were ongoing despite the complaint lodged by the country against the sanctions.

The Prime Minister dubbed as rumors the reported news that Russian mercenaries were present in the country. Last Friday, thousands of people gathered in the main square in the capital, Bamako, to protest against the sanctions, as reported by www.trendsnafrica.com. ECOWAS leaders decided last Sunday to shut borders with Mali and impose a trade embargo, which Mali had severely protested terming it as cruel and inhuman.
