Mali announced the recall of its ambassadors to West Africa as a sequel to closure of its borders and embargo imposed by its ECOWAS neighboursThe West African leaders met   at Accra to take stock of the situation in the troubled country, which is delaying the elections. A government spokesperson of Mali said that the  government of Mali strongly condemned the illegal and illegitimate sanctions.
Mali is also closing its land and air borders with ECOWAS countries. ECOWAS and the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) took a string   of measures against Mali on Sunday  against  junta’s intention to remain in power till 2026.
The country  attracted  sanctions since its present rulers (military junta) broke promise to hold presidential and legislative elections on February 27 to restore civilian rule. ECOWAS has also decided to cut off financial aid and freeze Mali’s assets at the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO). The member countries will recall their ambassadors to Mali
The Malian junta’s proposal to hold the presidential election in December 2026 did not find favor with the ECOWAS, which termed it as an attempt to delay holding the election.
