Paris announced in February the withdrawal of its soldiers deployed in Mali, an operation due to be completed this summer. There are reports that the order for the helicopters and radar was placed by former President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta (IBK), who was overthrown. That way, a source in the government claims that the order was part of an agreement “concluded from the government to government in 2019. A communication officer at the Ministry of Defence in Bamako has, however, denied this information. He said that the military junta did not recognize orders from the earlier dispensation alluding that the present acquisition of equipment is contracted by the current regime.
