President of Malawi, Lazarus Chakwerahas launched an international appeal for help in the aftermath of the devastation caused by Cyclone Freddy. The storm killed at least 225 people and thousands were displaced.

Appealing for help, President Chakwera said that  Malawi was in a state of disaster and immediately needed help in providing shelter, clothing and food. Malawi had a repeat of Cyclone Freddy in less than three weeks. Earlier, in February, the country was battered by Cyclone Freddy which also affected neighbouring Mozambique.

 Many people perished in landslides that swept away makeshift homes built on slopes. Flood levels remained high in some areas, hampering emergency efforts.
