A virtual business meeting held recently between Malawi’s private sector and buyers from Gambia has disclosed that Gambia is ready to import rice from Malawi. It was estimated that the Gambia requires 96,000 metric tonnes of rice per year. The Gambia, it was reported that is interested in buying 100 per cent broken rice of any variety from Malawi.
A statement published by the Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC) disclosed that discussions on exporting 96,000 metric tonnes of the commodity annually are at an advanced stage. MITC Chief Executive Officer Paul Kwengwere has urged the local exporters to explore the opportunity.
