According to UNICEF, 20% of children in Madagascar are suffering from malnutrition due to the worst famine the country is facing. There are special provisions in the schools to feed the children, who are attending the classes. The food will be stored in a food bank to be used as a safety stock. This stocks will be used during the famine days. The UN’s World Food Programme calls for an intelligent approach to agriculture, given the impact of climate change. It also calls for more allocation of funds to address poverty in the world particularly in places like Africa, which are more vulnerable to higher incidence of poverty and destitution.
The UN agencies also calls for concrete steps to ward off locust attacks, which are a menace to Africa since a large quantity of food grains are lost due to the attacks. It has asked other agencies to deploy more resources to cope up with locust attacks in a scientific and sustained manner.
