Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, president of Tanzania reiterated her government’s commitment to transforming the Lindi region into a blue economy hub in the southern zone.
Dr Samia said that Lindi has the real potential to be developed as the blue economy hub of Tanzania through fishing, fish farming, seaweed farming, and marine transportation. Through this initiative the country can capitalise its vast 285-kilometer coastline, spanning from Sudi village on the border of the Mtwara Region to Marendego Village in the bordering Coastal Region.
In 2022/2023 the region produced 6.81million kilograms of sea products worth 33.23bn/-, which is an increase from 1.16 million kgs worth 5.65bn/- produced in 2021/2022 and urged the citizens to increase the production even ten times.

If the country puts more effort into the production of sea products, it can grow even tenfold. The application of the latest technology and the completion of the mega Kilwa Fishing Port has the capacity to transform the whole region into the hub of blue economy activities in the southern region, says the president.
