At the beginning of 2024, some Tobruk residents expressed in a statement their dissatisfaction with the Egyptian authorities’ decision to raise the fees imposed on Libyans entering through the Salloum border

 In a significant development, the Minister of Transportation, Mohamed Al-Shahoubi, discussed with the head of the Passports, Citizenship, and Foreigners Affairs Department, Youssef Abdullah Murad, the implementation of decisions issued regarding reciprocity in entry fees for Egyptian citizens wishing to enter Libya.

The meeting, reported to have discussed the implementation of decisions issued by the Prime Minister regarding the imposition of entry and other visa fees on private cars, group rides, and trucks. Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah taken a decision demanding that additional fees be imposed on the “border visa”, vehicles and trucks entering Libyan territory, based on the principle of reciprocity.

At the beginning of 2024, some Tobruk residents expressed in a statement their dissatisfaction with the Egyptian authorities’ decision to raise the fees imposed on Libyans entering through the Salloum border. The Egyptian government doubled the entry fees, to become equivalent to 200 US dollars in addition to increasing other fees under terms that the people considered offensive to the Libyan people who have social relations with Egypt.

The people of Tobruk called on the relevant authorities in Libya to look into the matter and reactivate the movement agreements between the two countries that were signed in early 1990.
