The head of Libya’s High National Elections Commission (HNEC), Emad al-Sayeh, recently said in Tripoli that the opening of registration for candidacy for the presidential and parliamentary elections has started. The nomination for presidential candidacy is open until 22 November. Nomination for the parliamentary elections will be received until 7 December.
The election commission also said that polling stations are being opened to distribute more than 2.8 million voter cards through 1,906 polling centres spread all over the country. These stations will distribute electoral cards till 28th of this month (November). The voters will have to present their identification cards for issuing cards in their name.
Al-Sayeh pointed out that he had received from the House of Representatives all technical amendments related to the parliamentary and presidential elections laws. This would enable HNEC to implement the two electoral processes without any hitch. He also revealed that the parliamentary elections would be held on (14 Feb 2022) after the first presidential round. The date of the first round of the presidential elections will be on December 24. The second round will be held along with the parliamentary elections.
