The economy of Liberia is extremely underdeveloped, having only USD 3.222 billion as of 2019.  Until 1979, Liberia’s economy was among the most developed and fastest-growing in Sub-Saharan Africa. It declined mostly due to coups and civil disturbances. This has led to people migrating from the country as well as flights of capital. Liberia is richly endowed with water, minerals, and forest cover.
