Several Liberian girls had to be repatriated on complaints of ill-treatment. Minister Gibson reported that the Government of Liberia has already spent US$50,000 to repatriate Liberians who were reportedly trafficked to Cyprus, Oman, and Dubai under the pretext of furthering their education.
Addressing Global Affairs officials of Oman Liberian Labor Minister Cllr. Charles Gibson via zoom this week, directing them to halt all visa granting processes for females from Liberia. He stated that Liberia has made three note verbale requesting visa entry for key Liberian government officials including Foreign Minister, Justice, Labor and Gender Ministers to discuss the issue with their counterparts. He urged Oman’s Foreign Ministry to give Liberia  to hour the request and allow Liberian officials to fly to Oman to discuss and resolve the issue.
For his part, Mr. Hudmaid Al Maani, Head of International Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman, assured that the Oman government will take necessary steps to halt the issuance of visas to Liberians wanting to travel to Oman for domestic purposes.
