Lekki Deep Seaport in Nigeria to be commissioned this year: To boost Nigeria’s economic growth

Promoters of the Lekki Deep Seaport in Nigeria have said that the multi-million-dollar port is 87.58 percent completed and will be commissioned this year itself.  The seaport, which is expected to be completed by September this year, is positioned to boost Nigeria’s economy with about US$361 billion in the next 45 years or so. It will also generate about 169,972 employments for Nigerians

Promoters of the Lekki Deep Seaport in Nigeria have said that the multi-million-dollar port is 87.58 % completed and will be commissioned this year itself.  The seaport, which is expected to be completed by September this year, is positioned to boost Nigeria’s economy with about US$361 billion in the next 45 years or so. It will also generate about 169,972 employment opportunities for Nigerians.

Dredging and reclamation work at the seaport is almost over.  Quay wall construction is at 92.38 %.  Breakwater is at 84.67 %, while landside infrastructure is completed by 77.87 %. The overall project is currently estimated o have been completed at 87.58 %.

President Muhammadu Buhari had recently directed the timely completion of the seaport because of its strategic importance. He directed the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, to consult and bring up a memorandum to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to link the facility with the railway network. Lekki is the first Deep Sea Port in Nigeria located in Lagos Free Zone, 65Km east of Lagos. The port has a projected capacity of 2.7 million TEUs per annum. It will have 600 meters turning circle and 16.5 meters draught. Also, it will have three container berths, dry bulk berths, and three liquid berths, marine facility berthing facilities.
