The Foreign Investment Promotion Agency of Tunisia (FIPA Tunisia) announced today that a high-level delegation representing three of China’s most prominent firms in the automotive components industry has recently completed a strategic exploratory visit to Tunisia. These companies, all globally recognised leaders in their sector, are part of major Chinese industrial conglomerates with an established international presence and influence.

The purpose of the visit was to conduct an in-depth assessment of Tunisia’s viability as a future investment destination, particularly for the establishment of manufacturing and assembly operations related to the automotive supply chain. During their stay, the delegation engaged in meetings with key Tunisian government officials, industry stakeholders, and local business leaders. They also toured several industrial zones and infrastructure facilities to evaluate the logistical and economic landscape firsthand.

According to FIPA Tunisia, the Chinese executives expressed strong and concrete interest in Tunisia as a strategic location for expanding their global manufacturing footprint. This initiative reflects growing momentum in Tunisia’s efforts to position itself as a competitive hub for international industrial investment, especially in high-value-added sectors.

The delegation’s interest is rooted in several competitive advantages Tunisia offers. These include its geographic proximity to European markets, an extensive network of preferential trade agreements—such as the EU-Tunisia Association Agreement and access to the U.S. market through the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP)—as well as Tunisia’s unique position as a natural bridge connecting Africa, Europe, and Asia. The country’s well-developed infrastructure, skilled labour force, and strong bilateral ties with China further enhance its appeal as a regional base for Chinese industrial operations.

FIPA Tunisia emphasised that this visit marks an important step forward in fostering deeper economic cooperation between Tunisia and China, with potential long-term benefits in terms of job creation, technology transfer, and increased export capacity.

The agency added that discussions between the parties will continue in the coming months to translate this initial interest into concrete investment projects.
