Keeyong Chung, the ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Morocco, has announced that the Republic of Korea plans to organize a joint Korea-Morocco forum on green hydrogen next November. The initiative is in line with Morocco’s plans to produce 4% of the world’s green hydrogen by 2050.

Morocco’s significant potential in the green hydrogen sector and its efforts to use green hydrogen in its green transition reportedly is attracting foreign investors. The South Korean government also plans to shift to clean energy. By 2040, it plans to produce 6.2 million units of electric vehicles and build 1,200 refilling stations in the country. Chung also announced that he plans to organise interactions between academics, companies, and associations in the hydrogen sector of the two countries.

The Korean diplomat identified defense, automotive, health, technological innovation, media, and climate change as other potential areas for cooperation. He observed that Morocco could act as a gateway to the African continent for Korea. He also invited Morocco’s cooperation in vaccine trials, for the vaccine being developed by South Korea.

Choi Jong-Kun, the Korean Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, was also in Morocco for the first time in August and expressed his country’s keenness to strengthen bilateral relations.
