While speaking at a function in Washington, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta called on the citizens to devise a new form of democracy that promotes inclusivity, equity and social justice. Democracy should not designate some groups are winners and other losers.

Touching upon his government’s Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), President Kenyatta said this was targeted at building an alternative to a polarized political structure that sparked conflicts in the last 30 years. To sustain economic growth, Kenya must first and foremost achieve a social framework for our people that best fit our national circumstances, he added.

The meeting was attended by a large contingent of Kenyan officials, diplomats from other African countries and a few members of the Trump administration.

Kenyatta refused to offer any specific model of development and maintained that any suggestions at this stage would lead to further division in the society.
