- Ministry of Health Acting Director-General, of Kenya, Dr Patrick Amoth, is taking over as President of the World Health Organization (WHO) Executive Board based in Geneva, Switzerland.
- He will be leading a 34 other members of the board for three years, replacing Dr Harsh Vardhan from India.
Ministry of Health Acting Director-General, of Kenya, Dr Patrick Amoth, is taking over as President of the World Health Organization (WHO) Executive Board based in Geneva, Switzerland. He will be leading 34 other members of the board for three years, replacing Dr Harsh Vardhan from India. It is hoped that the appointment will put Africa and Kenya into a central in handling region’s health issues to the WHO particularly in the midst of the pandemic.
Dr Amoth has been serving as a chief technical advisor to the government of Kenya in liaison with the Health Ministry. He is the recipient of the Presidential Order of Service, Uzalendo Award that encompassed Kenyans who were at the forefront in the fight against Covid-19. Obstetrician and Gynaecologist by profession, Dr Amoth served at the Health ministry as the Directorate of Public Health prior to his current role as Acting Director-General.
