Kenyan President William Ruto said a new East African Community force would bring about peace to warring groups in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. This, he said, while holding talks with his Congolese counterpart, Felix Tshisekedi. Ruto was on a one-day official visit to the DRC in an effort to bring peace to the country.

Ruto said that the East African troops would be more forceful in bringing peace to the region, rather than the several numbers of peacekeeping forces present in the region, and would bring to book those who were perpetrating instability.

Kenya is tasked by the East African Community for bringing calm to the deadly tensions fuelled by M23, the armed group in the troubled eastern DRC, where multiple armed groups have been involved in violent attacks for nearly 30 years.

As reported by www.trendsnafrica.com, the first of over 900 Kenyan soldiers have already arrived in Goma, the capital of North Kivu, which is under threat from an offensive by M23 rebels as the Tutsi militia has seized large swathes of territory in the region. The two leaders discussed bilateral trade, investments, and issues relating to regional integration.
