The ranking is made by the Henley Passport Index based on its findings on data obtained from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), country policy and information mined from reliable online sources. It ranked the Japanese passport as the strongest globally and the Seychellois passport the strongest in Africa at position 28.
A person holding a Kenyan passport can visit 72 countries out of 218 without a visa which is a marginal improvement over the last year. Last year, the number of countries that a person could visit was only 71. However, Kenya ranks behind Seychelles (28), Mauritius (31), South Africa (54), Botswana (62), Namibia (68), Lesotho (69), eSwatini (71) and Malawi (72) in the global reckoning of passports. Last year, the respective ranking was Seychelles (29), Mauritius (32), South Africa(56), Botswana (62), Namibia (67), Lesotho (69),eSwatini (70),Malawi (71).
Tanzania (74), Tunisia (74), Zambia (74), Gambia (75) and Uganda (76) are the five African countries that trail Kenya in the list.
