Both Ministers met recently at the World Trade Organization’s 12th Ministerial Conference in Geneva and agreed to explore ways to strengthen bilateral trade and economic relationships with emphasis on boosting sustainable and inclusive economic growth, that benefits workers, consumers, and businesses and supports African regional economic integration. The US has been seeking favorable terms of trade including duty-free market access for its agricultural and industrial goods
Prior to the talks, the two countries will finalize a list of potential areas for cooperation to deepen economic engagement. A statement from the Ministry of Trade said that the ministers also discussed issues as well as a road map for enhancing economic cooperation.
Preparatory meetings between the teams of the two ministers will be held in the coming weeks. It is expected that the next steps will be announced before the end of July 2022.
