As Kenya intensifies efforts to establish 100,000 kilometers of fiber-optic infrastructure, 25,000 public Wi-Fi hotspots, and a nationwide network of digital innovation hubs, continued and strategic collaboration between the government and private sector remains essential for realizing the nation’s digital transformation vision.
In a recent meeting held at the Ministry Headquarters, Hon. William Kabogo Gitau engaged with Dr. Andile Ngcaba—one of Africa’s leading technology investors and entrepreneurs, renowned for pioneering large-scale digital infrastructure projects such as SEACOM, the first undersea fiber-optic cable system connecting Africa’s East Coast to the global internet backbone.
Their discussions focused on advancing Kenya’s National Connectivity Programme, a flagship initiative within the Digital Superhighway pillar of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). The two leaders exchanged ideas on accelerating broadband expansion, enhancing local technical capacity, and promoting active community participation in the rollout, maintenance, and sustainability of the country’s digital infrastructure.
Hon. Kabogo reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to creating a conducive environment for private sector investment in digital infrastructure. He emphasized that the joint efforts aim to ensure that data connectivity in Kenya remains accessible, affordable, and reliable—key enablers of inclusive economic growth and shared digital prosperity.
