Kenya and Israel have formalised a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate in the energy sector, with a focus on enhancing sustainable and renewable energy initiatives. According to Capital FM, the agreement will see Israel extend technical and professional support to Kenya, including capacity building and the sharing of cutting-edge technological advancements in energy.
Israel has committed to assisting Kenya in reducing both technical and commercial energy losses, an effort that aligns with the government’s aim to provide clean, efficient, and affordable energy access nationwide. Key elements of the partnership include Israel sharing expertise in renewable energy storage, grid stabilisation, and strengthening technical training institutions through collaboration with universities and colleges.
The scope of cooperation encompasses solar energy, geothermal power, biomass, energy efficiency, electricity transmission, grid management, and infrastructure protection, among other areas. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi expressed gratitude to the Israeli government for its support in helping Kenya achieve a full transition to green energy. He noted that the MoU provides a collaborative framework for the mutual exchange of expertise and innovation in renewable energy development.

Israel’s Ambassador to Kenya, Michael Lotem, emphasised the importance of creating a Centre of Excellence in energy to foster skilled human capital, describing it as key to ensuring a sustainable green energy transition. The event was attended by senior officials, including Principal Secretary Alex Wachira.
