Kenya loses the bid to host World Athletics Championships 2025

·        Tokyo which hosted last year’s Olympic Games won the bid to host the World Athletics Championships 2025, with its compelling bid.

Kenya was one of the top bidders to host the 2025 edition of the senior World Athletics Championships for the first time. However, a statement issued by the organisation has announced that Tokyo has won the hosting rights.

The other bidders included the Polish city of Silesia and Singapore. Tokyo which hosted last year’s Olympic Games won the bid to host the World Athletics Championships 2025, with its compelling bid. The year 2025 also coincides with Japan’s centenary celebration of the Japanese Association of Athletics Federations (JAAF).

Kenya was hoping to bag the event after the successful hosting of the World Under-18 Championships in 2017, the World Under-20 last year as well as three editions of the Kip Keino Classic, a leg of the World Athletics Continental Gold Tour.

President Uhuru Kenyatta was lobbying hard for Kenya’s bid. It would have meant Africa hosting the 10-day Championship for the first time ever. Kenya now will have to wait for 2027 to submit its bid.
