As per the deal, Kenya will start importing electricity from November from Ethiopia at 6.5 US cents per kilowatt for the next five years. Renegotiation of prices will be possible only after five years. The agreement was signed between Ethiopian Electric Power (ECC) and Kenya Power. In a statement issued by ECC, it was revealed that Ethiopia will sell electric power at a price of 6.5 US cents per one-kilo watt for the coming five years with a provision to renegotiate tariff adjustments after five years. Therefore, any talks on review can happen only by 2027.
