Zambia’s rate of infection is going up causing consternation for the government and the public.  The country’ 7-day rolling average of daily new cases has risen dramatically over the past two weeks from 1.44 new cases per 100,000 people on May 30, to 8.91 new cases per 100,000 people on June 13. Amongst about 18 million people the country has, there are a total of 108,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 1,348 deaths.

Kaunda became Zambia’s first democratically elected president in 1964. He continued in the post till 199i. That year,  he got defeated in a multi-cornered flight. He led the independence movement of the country and campaigned against the British. As a result,   the British colonial rule ended in the former Northern Rhodesia territory.
