Jordan and Rwanda sign MOU for Visa-free entry of Citizens

Rwandan foreign minister Vincent Biruta who was on a two-day official visit to Jourdan met with his counterpart Ayman al-Safadi in Amman. The bilateral talk led to Rwanda deciding to establish a diplomatic presence in the Jordanian capital as the two nations seek to bolster cooperation, according to the visiting Rwandan Minister

Rwandan foreign minister Vincent Biruta who was on a two-day official visit to Jourdan met with his counterpart Ayman al-Safadi in Amman. The bilateral talk led to Rwanda deciding to establish a diplomatic presence in the Jordanian capital as the two nations seek to bolster cooperation, according to the visiting Rwandan Minister.

The two countries decided to waive visas for the entry of citizens into the two countries. This follows an earlier decision on visa exemptions for diplomats as signed in last February. Biruta said that the signing of this agreement would help boost people-to-people exchange between the two countries and enhance tourism activities as well as trade and investment.

Both officials discussed common goals to play a constructive role in bringing peace focused on a number of sectors, including fertilizers, pharma, trade, and tourism, in addition to defense cooperation. Jordanian Minister Ayman al-Safadi detailed the signing of new deals. Two MOUs (memoranda of understanding) were signed; one has to do with urban development and housing, and another for waiver of visas for the entry of citizens into the two countries.  A third, MOU was signed for cooperation in the diplomatic training and diplomatic field. There are seven more MOUs signed between the two countries during the visit.

The Jordanian foreign minister praised the role of Rwanda in the Aqaba Process, which aims at pooling resources together to fight terrorism. The East African nation could host a new round of the process either by the end of this year or early next year, Safadi said. Rwanda’s chief diplomat also met with Jordan’s King Abdullah II.

In 2021, Jordan exported $3.77M to Rwanda. The main products exported from Jordan to Rwanda were Ethylene Polymers ($1.95M), Raw Plastic Sheeting ($535k) and, Rwanda’s exports to Jordan was US$420.45 thousand during 2022, according to the United Nations COMTRADE database on international trade. Items included were carpets and textiles and electrical items.
