According to the Minister of Energy of Algeria, Mohamed Arkab, Jordan and Algeria are planning to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector. Discussions are ongoing between the two countries for the supply of Algerian LPG and LNG, to Jordan. Algeria’s state-owned oil company Sonatrach is also contemplating entry into the Jordanian energy market, in the exploration and production of oil and gas. The talks took place following the political decisions taken by the leaders of both countries during King Abdellah’s visit to Algeria at the end of 2022.

As a follow-up to the discussions at the highest level, the Chairman of the Jordanian parliamentary delegation, Mohdjam Essoukour, recently visited Algeria for detailed talks. The agenda of the discussions included the possibility of Algeria supplying Jordan with crude oil, liquefied natural gas, and liquefied petroleum gas. Additionally, Algeria will also study distributing and stockpiling petroleum products in Jordan.

A joint plan is being drafted to implement projects between the two countries, in the field of renewable energy and integrate them into the electricity grid of Jordan. The Algerian Minister added that Jordan is well-positioned to be a hub and produce and distribute electricity to all countries in the region. Apart from the energy sector, tourism, industry, and agriculture are also among the potential sectors identified for closer partnership between the Algerian and Jordanian private sectors.
