The foundation stone of Ethio Engineering Group (EEG) and YTO China-Africa Machinery Corp was laid recently for a 10000-a-year tractor capacity assembly plant in Mojo Town.

Earlier, the EEG entered into an agreement with China’s premier producer of agricultural equipment to build the assembly plant. It has also forged a partnership in knowledge and technology transfer in tractor and farm machinery production.

The construction of the factory is scheduled to be completed in time. It will be one of the biggest plants in Africa with a capacity to assemble 10,000 tractors per annum.  The new plant has become essential due to the limited capacity of its oldest tractor assembly line in Adama.

The Chinese company will carry out the construction of the plant. The company will supply tractors for the African market. The Chinese company would finish the construction project in a short period of time, in order to support Ethiopia’s push to modernize its agricultural sector in time.

The joint venture between the two companies envisages various areas of cooperation including improving the existing production capacity of EEG, supplying and installing assembly line technologies, cooperating in after-sale services, exporting products, training, consolidating the existing market share, and expanding EEG’s products and services to neighbouring countries.

The two sides also plan to work jointly in the areas of making electric and solar tractor technologies, self-drive tractors, and other products.
