Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida was on an African tour. He arrived on 1st May in Ghana, after visiting Egypt. After the Ghana visit, the Japanese premier will be proceeding to Kenya and Mozambique.
The Prime Minister of Japan arrived at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra. He was received by President Nana Akufo-Addo. Both leaders held discussions on wide-ranging issues including a greater pace in the channelization of Japanese investments into Ghana. Earlier, he was in Egypt and met President Abdel Fatthah al-Sissi. Both leaders had reviewed the challenges the international arena was witnessing currently, in particular the massive economic repercussions caused by the Ukrainian crisis on developing countries.

Importantly, Japan is to host the G7 Summit scheduled on 19-25 May. Japan’s PM also attended the “Japan-Egypt Business Forum”. Japanese investments in Egypt rose over 98% during the fiscal year 2021-2022 to reach US$73.70 million from US$37.10 million. The value of the trade however went down by 26.30% year-on-year (YoY) to US$1.10 billion in 2022 from US$1.60 billion.
