The facility, covering three hectares of leased land, will be Toyo Solar’s first solar cell manufacturing plant in the country. Once fully operational, it is expected to generate over 1,000 permanent jobs and export products to the Middle East, India, and the United States.
Japanese solar panel manufacturer Toyo Solar has launched pilot production at its newly established facility in the Hawassa Special Economic Zone, following a USD 60 million investment in Ethiopia.
Fisseha Yitegesu, CEO of the Industrial Parks Development Corporation of Ethiopia (IPDC), recently visited the facility to assess its progress. During his visit, he reaffirmed IPDC’s commitment to supporting Toyo Solar as it moves toward full-scale production. Company officials announced that full production is set to begin by mid-March.

Toyo Solar’s investment stems from a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC) in October 2024.
