Japan Appoints Envoy to Libya After 10–Year Gap

The new Japanese Ambassador to Libya, Shimura Izuru, arrived in the capital, Tripoli, recently. He is the first Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Libya after a 10-year absence since 2014.

The new Japanese Ambassador to Libya, Shimura Izuru, arrived in the capital, Tripoli, recently. He is the first Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Libya after a 10-year absence since 2014.

The ambassador was received by the Director of the Protocol Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity, Al-Tahir Hussein, at Mitiga International Airport, according to a statement by the Japanese Embassy.

The embassy said that Shimura will lead Japanese diplomacy in Libya to strengthen relations between the two countries in various fields. Of late, Japan has shown considerable importance in revamping the bilateral relations with Libya, a country torn between two warring administrations. Efforts being made by the UN and the West have not made any dent in ironing out the differences between the two administrations which are at loggerheads with each other.
