Ivory Coast is hosting for the fourth consecutive time Africa CEO Forum, which is billed as a major event to promote the private sector in the continent. The objective is to groom the next generation of entrepreneurs of the continent. This event is taking place at a time when there is unprecedented focus laid on the private sector in the country both by the governments and the multilateral funding agencies. At the same, various studies point out that there is a fund crunch being faced by the continent’s private industry.

The event, which kicked off on 5th June at the commercial capital of Ivory Coast -Abidjan-was addressed by Ivorian Prime Minister, Patrick Achi, who called for a new business model for the continent which should lay emphasis on pro-active states that imbibe a new vision based on the efficiency of the public sector, and competitivity of a regulated economy driven by the private sector. Representatives of over 70 countries numbering close to 2000 are attending the meeting. B2B meetings among the delegates are an important feature of the event.

Topics that are being discussed threadbare at the Forum included agricultural development, infrastructure and logistics, manufacturing, and segments of the services sector that needed active attention. Importantly, Ivory Coast has signed three draft treaties worth US$450 million. Forum was attended by a large number of CEOs who stressed the handholding of domestic businesses with foreign firms to help promote the manufacturing sector in the continent.
