Ivorian Prime Minister Hamed Bakayoko died of cancer at a hospital in Germany yesterday (Wednesday). The 56-year-old, who has been undergoing treatment for multiple diseases including cancer had seen his health deteriorating sharply in recent days.
He had been hospitalized at the American Hospital in Paris. Later, in the beginning of March, he was transferred to a hospital in Freiburg, Germany to undergo an experimental treatment. There was a talk of him being shifted to Turkey for a transplant. However, doctors said he was not in a physical condition to undergo a surgery.
While in treatment, he also contracted coronavirus and malaria. During his first stay in Paris in January, he had undergone a series of medical tests at the American Hospital without any precise diagnosis. President Alassane Ouattara visited him recently during his official visit to France.
