The Italian foreign minister said Italy was ready to increase the flow of legal migrants from Tunisia but made its stand clear about preventing illegal immigration.

Antonio Tajani, Italian foreign minister on his visit to the north African country said that it would take steps to reduce irregular immigration while promoting regular immigration between the two countries. He sounded positive when he said that Italy was ready to increase the number of regular immigrants, trained in Tunisia, who could come and work in Italy in agriculture and industry.

In the meantime, the Italian foreign minister reiterated that the problem of illegal immigration has been a sensitive issue between the two countries. It was also a security problem since many people perished while illegally entering West Europe crossing the sea in unsafe boats. The solution lies in creating more job opportunities in the home country.
